Engagement rate methodology

Reproduce the formula, inspect aggregation choices and decide what missing observations mean.

Definitions we use

Selected interactions are the explicitly chosen likes, comments, shares and saves. A post rate is selected interactions ÷ a positive denominator × 100. Views, reach and followers remain distinct denominator choices.

A weighted aggregate uses sum of interactions ÷ sum of denominators × 100. A mean gives each valid post rate equal weight. Neither is automatically the correct measure for every task.

Some account-lookup vendors use median public interactions over their own recent-post sample. Our entered-data calculator uses the mean or weighted aggregate you explicitly select. Different numerators, samples and denominators mean their numbers need not match.

Reproduce a difference

Two illustrative posts have 50 interactions/500 views and 100/2,000 views. Their mean is (10% + 5%) / 2 = 7.5%; their weighted rate is 150 / 2,500 × 100 = 6%.

A selected missing metric excludes the row. A known zero is a valid count. A zero/missing denominator produces no rate. We show coverage and preserve full precision until display rounding. Rates above 100% are not clamped.
